Pregnancy and birth are powerful, transformative events in the life of a family. The WomanWise philosophy promotes woman and family centered care, believing that honest, ongoing communication between client and midwife is crucial for a satisfying & safe birth experience. We use an individualized approach to health care based on the concept of informed choice, empowering you to confidently make the decisions that are right for you and your family. We believe that every women deserves the right to choose where, how, and with whom they give birth.

Our philosophy is based on 4 ideas:

Trust

We trust in the process of birth and in each woman’s instinctual abilities to find her own unique path to birth.

Individuaized Care for Each Woman

We believe that there is no one “right” path to healthy pregnancy and birth for all women; but that given support, resources and encouragement, each woman will find what works for her.

Family Centered Care

We see pregnancy and birth as a unique opportunity for growth in family relationships and we encourage active involvement of partners and siblings in the birth process. We value early bonding so we facilitate continuous contact between you and your baby to improve self-confidence in breastfeeding, parenting, and to strengthen your new family’s bond.

Safety of Midwifery Care

Birth is a natural event. With a healthy lifestyle and good prenatal care, there is seldom need for women to be hospitalized to give birth. Midwives have an excellent record of safety with numerous studies associating midwifery care with excellent outcomes. You can find links to related medical studies in our [ Links & Resources ] section.

You are a midwife, assisting at someone else’s birth. Do good without show or fuss. Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to be happening.If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge. When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say;
“We did it ourselves!”
